8 Signs It May Be Time to Replace Your Windows

Drafts, failed seals, damaged frames and difficult operation deserve investigation, but not every issue requires full replacement.

Eight signs worth investigating

Look for 1) persistent drafts, 2) condensation between panes, 3) rotten or soft frames, 4) water stains or entry, 5) repeated sticking, 6) failed locks or cranks, 7) rising outdoor noise or comfort complaints, and 8) damaged or unavailable parts. Each sign still needs diagnosis.

Separate a repair from replacement

A worn sweep, balance, lock or screen may be repairable. A failed sealed unit, distorted frame, recurring leak or widespread deterioration can point to a broader replacement conversation.

Check the room before deciding

Note the window style, symptom, season, humidity and surrounding trim. Photos and measurements help identify whether the issue is glass, hardware, air sealing, water management or the opening itself.
